Everyday Heroes

Everyday Heroes

"Everyday Heroes walk the streets unadorned. They don’t wear latex costumes, their clothes come from stores. Can you see them?

There goes one now!"

Throughout my life I have been inspired and supported by many seen and unseen hands. I am grateful and humbled by the kindness, courage, and generosity of those that shaped my destiny. This CD would not be possible without Scott St. Dennis of St. Dennis Productions who engineered, co-produced, sang, and played various instruments. Paul Quick, guitar guru, sings back up vocals and co-wrote Wonders and and Coming Home. The bonus track, "I Am" was recorded live in Chehalis, Wa with the talented Suzanne Nichols and Steve Ackerman on vocals, violin, and mandolin.

Though some songs are also on the HighLight CD, “Seasons of the Soul”, I recorded with Scott and the group, there are several unique songs on each CD. This CD more acoustic and HighLight being more rock oriented.

On the cover of the CD are many of my influences, friends, and inspirations, there were too many to list there. Richard Shulman, Every Mother’s Dream, Jim Dawson, and many more should be mentioned.

Here are a few insights and comments about the songs, to make it more enjoyable by giving you more insight. Coming here you get the inside scoop!

Your Loving Arms

“ An Osprey hangs in the air suspended in time,

A moment in rhyme, three Souls held together,

A Watcher unseen blends in the grass. As we walk on past,

Under stars in the heavens.”

This is one of my wife’s favorite songs. I can often hear her singing it with me while she is making dinner. When Scott realized this he took extra time on the song adding the string quartet synthesized sound. There were tears in my eyes when I first heard it. For 15 years she and I shared our lives with our cat friend, Watcher.

Coming Home (Eli’s Song)

“ Forever stars guide the way, into the black endless day,

In reverence I pray… coming home…

Familiar places, beloved faces, all seem like a dream,

Like a dream. As I roam… alone… coming home

The recording project started with this song, recorded for the TV show Stargate Universe which went off the air before the song was finished and mastered. It is the only song Paul and I have written together which Paul wrote in an alternative tuning. The D tuning gives it a droning quality. Paul adding a sitar sounding guitar solo near the end transformed the coming home lyric repetition to an AUM chant. This transformed the song more from the personal to the Universal. Just as the focus of the show shifted from them returning to Earth and changed to finding the Source of the Universe. The song changed from our return to our homes here, to our Spiritual Home and return to our true nature and innocence.

The Calling

“Cancer creeps across the land, crops fail ozone acrid stand,

Corpriticians are lying, interests say, the waiting angles kindly pray.

Healing hearts, comfort Souls, moving Spirit, prayers console.

Darkness beckons, through the night, Angels dream in living light”.

When I wrote the lyrics to this song I tried to give it to everyone, doubting I could do musical justice to the lyrics. I ended up writing the music myself and it was probably given to me at that particular time, because I doubt I could ever come up with music like this again. Scott also did an incredible job filling in the sound, Mikes’ drumming, Alicia and Pauls’ backup vocals and his guitar solo make this a stand out on the CD. If you have not listened to this with headphones you are really missing out. Probably the song that best reflects my political/Spiritual understanding.

Everyday Heroes is my solo CD many of the songs also found on the group (HighLight) “Seasons of the Soul” CD.
